Ed Burcher Artist's Statement:

A blank canvas is like a new world for me to create.  I get to take the thoughts out of my mind and put them on a canvas where I want them.

As a kid I was always drawing on something. I would sit and watch my uncle paint or draw and just from watching I picked up the desire to be an artist. My skill was far from refined at first just like any new artist, but it slowly started to show its direction.

In late 1992 I stumbled onto a program called the Joy of Painting with Bob Ross on PBS and loved how he could take a blank canvas and turn it into a new world.  His work along with William Alexander opened me up to the world of wet on wet oil painting.  I approach each blank canvas as a new world waiting to emerge.

In the late 90’s I had the chance to live in Germany for three years serving in the U.S. Army.  While in Germany I got a better appreciation for art, by visiting many of the galleries and museums, including the Louvre in Paris, France.

I took some time off from painting while pursuing my career in the Army. But in 2009 I picked up the brushes again and got back to work.  After getting back into the flow of painting, as a way to showcase my work I started Simply Original Oils with my wife.
