November 4 Art Walk Color Theme is BROWN! Brown is the color of fall harvest and abundance, the turning of the leaves, and seasonal spicy treats. Brown represents solid assemblies, community minded activities, steadfast alliances, comforting homesteads, family trees with deep roots and supportive branches. You will find works of art and folks supporting the option to dress in shades of bountiful brown or representations of hearth and harvest as they enjoy an evening on the town with down to earth friends and family.

The North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival’s “Material Measurement – Magnitude, Meaning & Makers” fiber arts juried exhibition is at the Sequim Museum & Arts at 175 West Cedar St. is about vindicating the volume and importance of all fiber in its many forms while reflecting on textiles, tales, and talent through enlightenment, abundance, accumulation, and perception. Conspicuous consumption or considerate consequences, creators convey cloth’s transformation from meaningless mass into something that matters. Fiber Artists included in the exhibition are Carolyn Abbott, Lynn Baritelle, Helga Barton, Beverly Biegle, Catherine Bilyard, Renne Emiko Brock, Debra Danielson, Lauralee DeLuca, Liisa Fagerlund, Marijane Figg, MarySue French, Debi Glass, Janet Green, Pamela Hastings, Heartfelt Collective, Leslie Hoex, Lee Johnson, Margie Kepner, Susan Kroll, Danielle Lawrence, Mary Liebsch, Connie Lobo, Donna McMillen, Sherry Nagel, Sue Nylander, Pat Oden, Noreen O’Neill, Betty Oppenheimer, Ilse Osier, Monica Quarto, Diane Ross, Sandy Schlechter, Gladys Schulz, Alison Sell, Gloria Skovronsky, Stephanie Swenson, Marla Varner, Judy Warner, Diane Williams, Christie Wise, and Beth Witters. Meet and learn from fiber artists who demonstrate during the reception.

Steve Anderson takes the stage at 5:30 p.m., at the Olympic Theatre Arts Center, 414 N, Sequim Ave. Admission is free, concessions and beverage bar will be open. All are welcome to enjoy Anderson’s rendering of familiar standards and perhaps a few new tunes. Originally from Texas, he played for several years in San Diego’s Bluegrass Band scene and with other bands, both as lead vocalist, guitarist and mandolin player. His early influences included the rock bands of the 1970s like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Atlanta Rhythm Section, and Bad Company. Today he enjoys everything from Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Eric Clapton, and Elton John. Comfortable with a host of musical genres, from blues, country, folk and rock, he is in demand by local performing artists on the peninsula.

Paulette Hill, D’Ann Gonzales and Gail McLain will be doing jewelry demonstrations at R&T Crystals and Beads at 158 E Bell St. that includes delicious cookies and many bargains at the store to inspire your creativity.

Meet a “budding” artist at Cedarbrook Lavender and learn more about the artistry of lavender at 134 1/2 W Washington St.

Blue Whole Gallery’s features Jan Tatom, a fiber artist, who is inspired by spectacular colors and textures of nature reflected in the mountains, woods and the sea found on the Olympic Peninsula. She weaves these elements with the aid of two looms and her short experience in weaving. Along with the weaver’s world of Jan Tatom, a selection of art works by Artists of the Blue Whole Gallery will also be on display at 129 W Washington St. This showing reveals the varied talents and styles represented by 2D and 3D artists that make up this 19 year co-operative gallery.

Mia Bella at 130A N 3rd Ave. features fascinating art by Curposney Gadane of Enhanced Art containing surrealistic storytelling via collage. Look for the luminaries at Mia Bella where artists Paula Graham, Pat Gordon, George Zien, Priscilla Patterson, Pam Kauffman are on display, and gorgeous concrete garden features of hosts, rhubarb, and other exotic leaves bejeweled and painted by Joanie Schmoll.

Luminaries light the way to The Bag Ladies of Sequim at 167 W Washington St. with up-cycled items for a new purpose with an artful twist. All of their creations are one of a kind items that are handmade. Each item has a unique combination of felting, hand dying, beading, embroidering and appliqueing. Several other artists’ works are for sale in their shop.

Wind Rose Cellars at 143 W Washington St. hosts The Crocs, a rock band out of Port Angeles, performing 7 to 9 p.m. with a mixture of tunes from 60s & 70s and enjoy award winning artfully crafted wines with appetizing tidbits.

To create inclusion between venues, artists, and audience, everyone is encouraged to participate in the Art Walk’s monthly themes as a fun community activity in any creative form they wish to express it. January is silver, February is red, March is green, April is pink, May is aqua, June is white, July is purple, August is yellow, September is blue, October is orange, November is brown, and December is gold.

Our theme color for the Art Walk is YELLOW! Yellow shines like the sun fueling our world and inspiring creative communication. The brightness of yellow represents happiness, cheerful friendships, expressive enthusiasm, and empowers goodwill and justice.

Team Instinct FTW at Downtown Sequim Pokémon Go Gym

Yellow is also for bright Pokémon Pikachu! During the August 5 Art Walk, come out and play Pokémon Go while lures will be put in downtown Pokéstops near venues to attract more Pokémon for you collect. Who will control the Pokémon Gym near the Sequim Civic Center? Red, Blue, or Yellow?

"Keying Around" launch on July 1, 2016 — “Keying Around” launch on July 1, 2016

August 5 will be the final day for “Keying Around”. Ken Young will be playing piano on the plaza from 12-1 PM. People are encouraged to come and play the pianos one last time. During the August 5 Art Walk, the 3 painted pianos will also be auctioned off. Final bidding in a silent auction ends at 6:30 PM. We will also be accepting pledges for the school district’s Fund A Need. Needs have been identified by teachers as Light the Stage for Drama! ($356.49), Destination Imagination Team ($1,950), Large scale laser printer for Sequim Middle School ($5,000), and Xylophones for Greywolf students ($8,262.45).

R&T Crystals and Beads at 158 E Bell St. has Paulette Hill and Gail McLain doing a jewelry creation demonstration. Cookies will be provided by Sequim Fresh Catering and will have special sales for the Art Walk.

Carl Baker, a wood artist, and Mary Franchini, a multimedia artist are showcased at Blue Whole Gallery at 129 W Washington St for “Remember August” exhibition. Enjoy their skillfully crafted wood art and unique paintings that create a harmony, present energy of the summer, and stimulate viewers’ imagination into the world of fine art.

Wind Rose Cellars at 143 W Washington St. hosts live music with The Mogis and artist Mike Pace with award winning artfully crafted wines with appetizing tidbits. The Mogis are a rock/folk band out of Port Angeles. Jason Mogi on Banjo, Kim Trenerry on guitar and Paul Stehr-Green on bass with a mixture of tunes from 60s & 70s.

The Museum and Arts Center features photographic exhibition by Witta Priester and ceramic and glass works by Jeff Becker at 175 W. Cedar St.

Olympic Theater Arts at 414 N Sequim Ave. provides music by Pistachio Moon, a new musical trio whose members are already well-known to the community. The trio includes Michael Bunnell and Penny Pemberton, creators and producers of the popular Open Mic at OTA, and John Winters, musician and sound engineer. The three have been working on an eclectic mix of songs which they categorize as “Songs you’ll Remember.” The August 5 First Friday event will be the group’s debut as a performing trio and play mainstream pop tunes from the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s. Doors open at 5 p.m., with the music starting at 5:30 p.m. There is no cost. Pemberton has performed as a professional vocalist in San Francisco and other communities and is a well-known performer on the OTA stage. Winters began playing music at the age of eight and has played in several bands since. His bandmates call him a “keyboard wizard.” Burnell is a former radio entertainer with community theater stage experience. He plays guitar and shares vocal duties with Pemberton.

Red, White, and Blue make PURPLE for the July 1 Art Walk Color Theme! Purple is the color of Sequim’s famous lavender blooms and represents supportive spiritual efforts, dignity, royal thoughtfulness, and magical camaraderie. You will find works of art and folks supporting the option to dress in tints and shades of purple as they enjoy a festive night on the town with friends and fellow Sequimmers preparing for Sequim Lavender Weekend later in the month. We will see a lot of red, white, and blue for anniversary of the adoption of the United States of America’s Declaration of Independence and the Art Walk has many places to honor our freedoms and pursuit of happiness.

New venue to the Sequim Art Walk! Kaboom Salon & Boutique is showcasing mixed media artist Janie Brackney at 168 E Bell St.

The Sequim Museum and Arts Center at 175 W. Cedar St. will be hosting “The Art of Lavender”.

An art exhibit of “All Things Purple” will open in the lobby of the Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar Street. The City Arts Advisory Commission reviewed 24 pieces of work from 12 artists before selecting 19 pieces to be included in the show. The exhibit includes works in watercolor, acrylics, mixed media, photography, and metal. The artists represented are Barb Boerigter, Sharon Delabarre, Karen Gates-Kilpatrick, Pat Gordon, Terri Jones, Judy Larimore, John McBride, Kimberly McBride, Betty Oppenheimer, Sandy Placek, Patty Waite, and George Zien.

Blue Whole Gallery at 129 W Washington St. features “Inspired by Nature” with Debbie Cain, gourd artist, and Joyce Volmut, sculptor. They will showcase unique work in the front windows. Debbie and Joyce create from what they see, feel, and imagine. Their powerful work will take viewers to the world of fine art filled with joy and energy.

Wind Rose Cellars at 143 W Washington St. hosts Twisted Roots who perform a mixture of blues, rock and folk. Dance and enjoy Wind Rose’s award winning artfully crafted wines with appetizing tidbits.

Olympic Theatre Arts at 414 N. Sequim Ave. will experiment with an unusual combination of talents for its OFF Stage offering (OTA First Friday), combining ballet and comedy on Friday, July 1, during Sequim’s First Friday Art Walk. The Improv troupe “Tweaking Reality” will return for a riotous audience participation performance to be presented between two short recital pieces performed by the company principals of Sequim Ballet. Doors will open at 5:00 p.m., with the ballet beginning at 5:30 p.m., Improv 6:00–6:30 p.m., and a ballet encore at 6:30 p.m. There will be no charge for attendance. Refreshments, including beer, wine, and light snacks will be available for purchase.

Dancers Kate D’Amico, Amara Sayer, Eleanor Byren, Ryan Andrews, Saige Turner and Ava Rich will perform two dances from the original choreography of Cinderella by Sequim Ballet Mistress, Laurel Herrera. Cinderella premiered on the OTA stage last spring, eliciting accolades from full-house audiences. “This is another chance for these serious dancers to perform,” said Herrera. “I like for them to have as many opportunities to dance in front of an audience as possible. This performance bridges the gap between our opening of Cinderella and our premiere of The Nutcracker, which we plan to stage at OTA this winter.”

Appearing on stage following the first short ballet performance will be OTA’s popular Improv troupe, “Tweaking Reality.” The antics will abound for a half hour and feature Dave McInnes, Olivia Shea, Danny Willis and Pamela Ziemann. “Improv is such a great way to sharpen your acting skills while having some serious fun,” explained Danny Willis. “This is always a fun night for us at OTA,” remarked Carol Willis, OTA general manager. “And we would like to see the program grow to become a permanent workshop at OTA, allowing us to include more people and possibly offer some professional guidance.”

Blue Whole Gallery at 129 W Washington St. presents “Visual Symphony” with featured artists abstract painter Bridget Baker and photographer Karen Rozbicki Stringer. Bridget and Karen create a visual symphony from what they see, experience, imagine, and their feelings. Their art will take viewers to the world of fine art filled with joy.

Hart’s Fine Books at 161 W Washington St. hosts Tom Darter, founding editor of Keyboard Magazine, who will be playing piano and author Russell Cahill book signing. Tom started playing piano at the age of five. He has played keyboards on numerous Jerry Goldsmith film scores, won several composition awards, and arranged two albums for the Kronos Quartet. He has played piano or keyboards in rock bands, jazz groups, chamber ensembles, electronic music groups, and symphony orchestras. He has also taught music theory and composition at Roosevelt University in Chicago (where he also conducted the school’s Contemporary Music Ensemble), and electronic studio techniques at the University of Southern California. Russell Cahill served as a National Park Ranger in the 60s and 70s and was later Director of Alaska’s and California’s State Park Systems. He came to Washington in 1980 to serve as Supervisor of Natural Resources for Washington DNR and has been here ever since. He’ll be signing his book “KOLEA: A Story of Hawai’i and Beyond” and chatting about a memoir due out in the fall.

Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County Fundraising The Artistic Door project is presenting several artists at the Sequim Civic Center at 152 W Cedar St.! Artists from all over Washington are submitting stunning creations to be auctioned off at A Taste of the Peninsula in April. Hart’s Fine Books at 161 W Washington St. hosts “Becoming Piper Pan” author Lindy MacLaine who just released Book 2 of her adventurous trilogy set in The Neverland. And, enjoy the music of Harpist Paula Lalish during the Art Walk at Hart’s Fine Books.

Blue Whole Gallery at 129 W Washington St. presents guest artist Mike McCollum, nationally recognized artist and art educator. Artist statement: “This exhibit involves recent wood and resin works consisting of large totems and a series of pyramids. The totems are comprised of different panels of drawings and/or abstract color “paintings.” Several of the totems are lit from inside. The pyramids range in size from desktop to large ones that are best viewed on the floor. A series of tables that have wood and colored resin designed tops will also be on display. This current work demands something from the viewer. The pieces do not answer any questions, they only ask them.” Mike was born in Hoquiam, WA but developed many of his artistic sensibilities from the San Francisco Bay Area and was awarded an individual artist fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts in 1980.

Wind Rose Cellars at 143 W Washington St. has Twisted Roots in the house performing a mixture of tunes from 60s & 70s. Blues, rock, and Americana along with fresh art with award winning artfully crafted wines with appetizing tidbits.

Starting at 6:00 PM, Sequim Branch of the North Olympic Library System at 630 N. Sequim Ave., enjoy a storytelling program by featured artist Richard Jesse Watson and music by Bread and Gravy. Join the artist for an interactive dance of story, art and books with music while he pick ideas from the audience, turn them into quick drawings and create a story together. Bread and Gravy is the husband and wife duo of Stephanie and Jess Doenges. Based on the Olympic Peninsula, their music alternates between powerful rock and soulful blues to smooth bluegrass and good old fashioned Americana. Dynamically diverse and intricately woven, their musical poetry captures the rarest of dichotomies: raw and refined.

Red Themed February 5 First Friday Art Walk Sequim Focuses on Love and Hearts

Happy and healthy hearts are the focus of February 5th’s First Friday Art Walk Sequim while incorporating RED as the theme color that represents love, active endeavors, increased excitement, driven leadership, and passionate affection. It is also National Wear Red Day to increase awareness of heart health. #GoRed You will find works of art and folks supporting the option to wear all shades of red from blush to burgundy for the evening out on the town.

Special events for February 5:

A Special Dedication to kick-off during the February First Friday Art Walk at Sequim’s Civic Center

On Friday, February 5, 2016, at 5 p.m., former City Manager Steve Burkett and friends will unveil an art glass sculpture, which is being permanently installed in the lobby of the new Sequim Civic Center at 152 W Cedar St. Commissioned by Burkett, this exciting piece of public art is being donated to the City and will be dedicated in memory of his late wife, Bobbi, who passed away in 2013.

The creation of this beautiful art work was made possible through the generosity of Burkett family members and friends, who donated nearly $12,000 to the Olympic View Community Foundation in Sequim on behalf of the Bobbi Burkett Memorial Fund over the course of two years.

Seattle Glassblowing Studio in Seattle created this standing art glass sculpture which embodies the colors and light found in the natural beauty surrounding Sequim and the Olympic Peninsula, which Bobbi dearly loved. A collaborative design, this installation was created by Bob Rigg, Cyrena Stefano, and Cliff Goodman, a talented team of artists at Seattle Glassblowing Studio.

New Venue on the Sequim Art Walk! The Rusting Rooster at 154 E Washington St. exhibits local artists of several media including upcycling, repurposed art, painting, printing, and sculptures. The Rusting Rooster is inside the old Texaco station and bright yellow. You can miss it!

From 7:00 to 9:00, Wind Rose Cellars hosts “Bill & Mark” Volmut, brothers to the winemaker David Volmut, with award winning artfully crafted wines at 143 W Washington St. The duo performs original songs as well as tunes from the 60s & 70s.

Hart’s Fine Books presents Alaska resident Dale Brandenburg and his take on the topic of poaching and renegade justice in the wilds of Alaska, in his novel “Grizzly Tales.” Signed copies will be available for sale. Also, live music with Trent LaCour on piano at 161 W Washington St. Please leave your bears at home.

I Do!” is an award-winning Broadway musical in which a married couple survives ups and downs through the years. This is Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt’s musical adaptation of the play “The Fourposter.”

Hart’s Fine Books at 161 W Washington St. welcomes author Jonathan Evison 5 to 6:15 p.m., signing his latest novel “This is Your Life, Harriet Chance!” Evison’s novels “All About Lulu”, “West of Here” set around the Elwha Dam, and “The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving”, soon to be a film starring Paul Rudd, are also in stock for purchase and signing. Later in the evening on the baby grand from 6 to 8 p.m., Burke Garrett brings verve to selections from the years when Harriet Chance would have been in her prime. Burke Garrett started his first band in 1955 at age 16. He continued to refine the “Burke Garrett Orchestra” for nearly 15 years, travelling throughout the NW territory playing swing music, blues and jazz. After a career ranging from concert promotion to resort marketing, he now devotes his time to playing and singing the classic evergreen songs from the Great American Songbook.
